On the territory of Lankaran region there are various historical monuments. It is necessary to mark that the historical monuments of this region are not sufficiently investigated. From historical monuments, it is possible to indicate the Fortress, the bath of "Haji Mirza", the bath of "Haji Qurban", that is situated in the part of the city that is called "Boyuk Bazar" (Big Market).
All of these are concerning to the 19th century.
Also we can indicate the mosque and the bath on the outskirts of the
Lankaran, and also the mosques in the villages of Ashaghi Nuvedi,
Seidekeran, Sutamurdov, Shaglakuge, Bala Shuruk, Germetuk, Sennekeran,
Holmili, Darguba, Luveser, Rvo, Olhova, Girdeni, Gavzova, Viravul, Shaglasar,
Jik, Separadi, Vilvan, Digah, Boladi, Mamusta, Shihayaran, Viiyan, Shilavar,
Yuhari Nuvedi and etc. (XIX-XX); the bath in the villages of Shaglasar
and Boladi (XIX-XX), the mausoleum of "Sheikh Zahid" in
the village of Shihakaran, the mausoleum of "Halifa"
in the Djil (XIX) and some others that are kept up to our days.
In connection with the invading policy of the
Russian State, the town planning was not given the due attention. In
some cases, instead of restoration of medieval structures, they were
destroyed. The architectural facilities that had the military-strategic
value were subject to destruction more than others. Along with the revival
of economic life of the city in second half of XIX - beginning of XX,
quantity of apartment houses and economic facilities increased, number
of streets (up to 50) also increased, 3 squares have been built. In
XIX the city of Lankaran consisted of 3 parts, standing close to the
fortress walls. The fortress "Lankaran" was surrounded
by deep trenches filled with water when needed. The Lankaran fortress
consists from the 2 battle towers; the northern tower is on the seacoast
and the southern is above the mouth of the river of Lankaran-Chay. |
